Is my phone or tablet compatible with the mobile payments card reader?

Compatibility information

The QuickBooks mobile payments card reader is designed to work with most popular smartphones and tablets, and we're constantly working to make sure it works with new devices as they come out.

 

Apple

The card reader is compatible on all iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch devices running iOS 6.0 and higher. 

Android

The card reader is compatible on most Android devices running OS 2.2 and higher.

Please note, however, that your device needs to be connected to the Internet via Wi-Fi or cellular connection to process transactions.

The following mobile devices have known compatibility issues. This does not represent a complete list of all unsupported devices.

Agent Notes

IMPORTANT AGENT NOTE: Merchants using Motorola devices that install the new Android 4.4.2 update will not be able to use the card reader with the GoPayment app. The Motorola O.S. changes currently result in reduced compatibility with the card reader. Current users that have not updated their device should hold off on installing the update until this issue is resolved. Removal of this message would indicate resolution.

For compatibility issues with Android devices, be sure to use the Card Reader Configuration Tool to determine compatibility. If the results of using the tool determine the device is not yet compatible with the card reader, advise the merchant that we are always adding devices and to try again with the next release of GoPayment. The latest release version of GoPayment can be found in the Google Play store.

In the meantime the merchant can process using the web version of GoPayment as mentioned below.

What happens if I have the GoPayment card reader but my Android device isn't listed as being compatible?

Good news! 

If you're using an unsupported Android device, you may still be able to get it working by performing the following steps:

  1. Download the latest version of GoPayment.
  2. Sign into the GoPayment app.
  3. Go to your Android Settings -> Sound and set your media volume to Max. (This is important since some phones don't set the Media Volume correctly.)
  4. Turn off the Beats Audio if your phone supports this feature.
  5. Go back to the GoPayment App.
  6. Plug in your card reader.
  7. If it is not officially supported, GoPayment will launch a configuration tool that may allow you to get it working.  For more information, please see our detailed instructions

If your device still doesn't work, you can still accept credit cards with the GoPayment application.  While you cannot use the card reader to swipe cards, you can still take payments using one of the following two methods.  These methods are also available if you're using a supported device.

  1. Use the GoPayment application to manually enter your customer's credit card number (also called key-entering). 
  2. You can manually enter your customer's credit number on the web.  To do so, merely log into https://gopayment.intuit.com using your GoPayment app user name and password.  For help, click here.

We're busy working on supporting additional devices and we update the compatible device listing frequently so please check back with us.  Also, if you would like us to consider your device for compatibility testing, please send the following information to gopaymentfeedback@intuit.com:

Please note that the P25 Blue Bamboo card reader/printer is compatible with most Android devices via bluetooth (sorry, Apple devices aren't compatible at this time).  For information on how to order a P25 Blue Bamboo card reader/printer, click here.
